Friday Foto Diary

7.00 a.m.

Quick check to see if the UFO 'Orb' is anywhere around.... ummm, yesssss! *Closes door quickly*
10:30 a.m.
Depart for work (I had a rough day yesterday... gimme a break!)

10.40 a.m.
Arrive at work... Hi Guys!

10.45 a.m.
Time for a quick ciggy break weather check before I go upstairs.... Loving it!

11:00 a.m.
Upstairs for a quick (15 minutes) massage. Here are my girls getting a manicure (they should have gone with the massage... whew, it was good!)

12:30 p.m. - Lunch (I had Cashew Chicken.. thanks for asking!)

1:30 p.m. Work... Hey, how about a tour of the place??

Lets start at the beginning - The paper.
Here its being unloaded from the trucks to our storage room (this guy has a great view).

What next... well, we better go to the Plate Making Room. That's where the images of the pages are sent down to a big machine and then transferred to aluminium 'plates'. Don't adjust your monitors - it's a very yellow room (no, I don't know why, but I'm sure its deliberate and very technical).

This is the big machine I just mentioned...

And these little beauties, are the plates...

They need to be sorted to go to the right press. That task is handled by the sorting machine...
(yes, I know its all very technical, but please bear with me)

Next, the plates go on the presses. The presses are huge, dirty and very, very noisy. The proper attire must be donned. (Safety first!)

OK, here we go... don't blink or you'll miss it.
That's newspaper - and a very startled pressman.... "what!"

After explaining he was never going to be famous, he lightened up and cracked a smile...

Graciously, he took over the tour. Here you can see the aluminum plates on the press - all ready to print - fascinating stuff right?

Abracadabra! Whammo! Presto! Shebang.... There's your paper!
Now, if only they can get a dustpan and brush down there. (I'm ashamed, yes I am).

Finally, the fresh and shiny newspaper is grabbed by these hooks and whirled up to the pre-print room for inserts and packaging.

It's a dizzying sight (when it has newspapers on it)....

I should mention, none of this would happen without....

OK, shows over, lets head back down and do some work!
Quick check in the cafeteria to see what I missed.... oooh, chicken and pasta.

Lovely view when you eat..

Course, the executives have it better...

And the Publisher... well, lets just say its a 'club'.

2:30 p.m.
Back to WORK!

Hi Daisy!
Isn't she cute?? She's also adorable, sweet and single... if there is any nice guys out there.. you may email me (recent photos only please!)

Here's Gianinna - my very good friend. I love this girl.. and her mama's cooking! She also happens to be unattached at the moment...

Ervin!! My buddy! Poor fellow, he puts up with a gaggle of girls and holds up admirably!

3:30 p.m
Ah, time to go to work! Damn, is that my desk??

Best take a quick break - see how the other half live....
Not too bad from the look of it!

Such a beautiful day. Dolphins are a common sight, as are Manatees...

Storming on South Beach, and heading this way!

Best check the traffic report...
All clear!

5:00 p.m.
I'm exhausted.... homeward bound!

All in all, a good day. Hope yours was too!

Fascinating - looks a great place to work. What is El Nuevo Herald anyway?

Jane Llewellyn said...

El Nuevo is our Spanish language sister paper. Miami-Dade's population is approximately 60% Spanish speaking, so one must cover all bases.

All thanks to YOU Herc! My father doesn't like the new style, but I am going to give it a few days and see if he changes his mind!

Hey Lady J,

You can change the color scheme too, so have a play around with it and see what you like. It takes a while to get used to a new template.

I love it - have since I saw yours (obviously, since I copied it exactly)! I think it looks more organized now. Dad thinks the other looked 'brighter', but I know how he is.. its an adjustment.

Hmmm, after a quick re-check of yours, I might change the bar at the top.. thanks Herc!

ohhhh, Daisy is gonna LOVE this!!

Killemall - the Hitch will always be single!

Jane Llewellyn said...

Ummm no, 45G.. I think he and the lovely Eve have 'made up' at this time of writing.

Hercules said...

I can't wait for him to see either! I know he's smitten with the lovely Eve, but you know the boy Hitch. I'm sure the right Honorable Tuscan Tony will be more than willing to pass on his thoughts about young Daisy too.

Jane Llewellyn said...

Killem.. stop it!! You're killing me! (sorry, lousy pun!)

Herc.. Daisy's boobs are not big enough for Tuscan, and besides, that, I seriously DOUBT they read this blog!

I'll point them in the right direction; your candid look at your world will attract a great number of readers, so keep up the good work. Believe me the first whiff of chicks and they will be around!

Jane Llewellyn said...

Yes... Daisy is proving to be very popular - why am I not suprised?? *hmmm* maybe I should give her a guest spot?

Wow! Jane! You have made me popular in other places of the world!!! The comments of hercules & killemall are so flattering! I take a bow to those fans out there LOL! "O) Thanks Jane you are awesome!

My pleasure Daisy.. and it's not me, its all you - and well deserved!
